A Book Challenge for Andre

Andre was 37 years old. He died from heart disease. He was a very nice man. He lived with Stacey and his two cats and one dog. He was my uncle and l loved him a lot.

I am donating money for the Family Room at the hospital to remember Andre. I want to help to make $250 - maybe more. I am going to ask people to give me 25 cents for every book I read. My goal is to read 100 books.

Book 76 - Today I Will Fly! by Mo Willems

The book is about trying to fly.  Piggie decides she wants to fly.  Gerald says “You are not going to fly any day!”  In the end she is flying by a string held by a duck flying above her.   I love this book and I love Mo Willems.

Book 75 - Small Saul by Ashley Spires

The weirdest pirate ever!  He does everything to make the ship like a home.  He tries to show he is tough but he really wasn’t.  He had a bunny tattoo.
There are 3 things pirates must like.
1 .  Ships
2. Being Tough
3. Treasure

Book 74 - A Piece of Cake by Jill Murphy

This is about a family of elephants who think they are too fat and then they think maybe elephants are supposed to be fat.  They got a cake and then decide that elephants are supposed to be fat.  The family stole the cake in the night and only left one piece.

Book 73 - Splat the Cat by Rob Scotton

This is a story about Splat and his first day of school.  He thinks it is going to be really, really, really bad but it turns out to be really, really, really good.    This is a gold star, Splat the Cat is really, really funny.

Book 72 - Down by the Bay by Raffi

This book is a song.  Down by the bay, where the watermelon’s grow, back to my home I dare not go.  My favourite is “Did you ever see a whale with a polka dot tail?”   I like “Did you ever see a whale with a polka dotted Kael?” because it rhymes.

Book 71 - Here Comes Jack Frost by Kazuno Kohara

This story is cold.  This book says don’t mention anything hot!  He was first trying to get away and then Jack Frost stayed to play with the boy.  Jack Frost is a snowman who lived in the woods and played with the boy until it was almost Spring.  See you next Winter!   (Insert long air guitar solo to end the review.)

Book 70 - Yay, You by Sandra Boynton

This review is an interview based on the questions in the book.
Aunt Stacey: Now that you are almost done your book challenge what project do you want to do?
Kael:      Another book challenge!
Aunt Stacey:  Do you like to go fast or go slow?
Kael:      I usually go medium but I like going really fast.
Aunt Stacey:  When you look in the mirror what do you see?
Kael:      Blue eyes, yellow hair, my t-shirt, and I see a missing tooth.  I have a missing tooth and there is only one thing.  Really I didn’t make my tooth go missing.  Mike made the tooth go missing by yanking on it.  It hurt!
Aunt Stacey:  Would you like to live where it is hot or where it is sometimes cold?
Kael: I would live somewhere its cold sometime, like where I already live.  My Mom would live somewhere really hot.  If she had the chance she would even live in the dessert.  You can even ask her.
Aunt Stacey:  Do you like to be busy or lazy?
Kael:  Busy, but I do both quite a lot.
Aunt Stacey:   Do you need to have lots of friends or just a few?
Kael:  Just a few.  Sometimes I like friends who like different things from me.
Aunt Stacey:  Do you like Science or Art?
Kael: Both.  Science because I like doing experiments and all I like about Art is you can do so much interesting stuff with it.
Aunt Stacey:   Would you like to listen to nature or rock and roll?
Kael: Sometimes nature but mostly Rock and Roll.  My favourite band is Simon and Garfunkel.  Some people don’t like Simon and Garfunkel.
Aunt Stacey: Do you prefer adventure or staying close to home?
Kael: Adventure!   I like going on an adventure where I can eat blueberries.
Aunt Stacey:  Kael, thank you for answering these questions.  Just one last question – Who is your favourite Aunt in the whole wide world? (Sorry other aunts!)
Kael: Aunt Stacey!!!!

Book 69 - Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein

This book represents a chicken who won’t go to sleep.  Red Riding Hood, Chicken Little, even Hanzel and Gretel and stories he interrupts.  His Papa says why don’t you make a story and he makes a story about how no one would go to sleep and then his Grampy is interrupting by going ZZZZZ ZZZZZZZ   ZZZZZ.
I like this book, it would be a gold star because of the illustrations.

Book 68 - When a Monster is Born by Sean Taylor and Nick Shavatt

This book smells like macaroni.
First of all – why would it smell like macaroni?
Second of all – why would someone be eating macaroni in the library?

Third of all – it is a silver star.
Fourth of all – I’m getting on to the book review.
It is all about a monster and how he thinks a monster might go.  There are always two possibilities.  Here are some of the bad things that might happen.
It eats you or it goes to school
It goes to school and eats the principal and does the boogie woogie.
Fifth of all – I’m doing the boogie-woogie while I’m telling you this.
Sixth of all – it is not my dance moves it is my Mom’s.   She is so crazy she doesn’t even know how to breakdance.   Something that is awesome to attract people is breakdancing.

Book 67 - The Snagglegrollop by Daniel Postgate

This book is about a monster and a boy.  The boy wants a cat or a dog but his parents say no.  Then he says a Snagglegrollop and his parents say “What’s that?” He walks back with a Snagglegrollop and his Dad says “What on earth is that?” and he says he just made it up.
The whole story is about Sam wanting a pet and maybe getting a dog at the end.  The end is a mystery.  This is a good mystery book.  There are 2 mysteries.  Does Sam get a dog and where does the Snagglegrollop fly off to.   This is a gold star because the word Snagglegrollop is hard to say.

Book 66 - Frankenstein Makes a Sandwhich by Adam Rex

Frankenstein wants to make a sandwhich but he has no food except for salt.  He tries to make a sandwhich and he thinks and thinks.  He ended up asking the neighbours and they get scared and throw food at him and he uses all the food to make a big sandwhich.  The book has other stories in it and the illustrations were good.  I don't know but they were mostly weird.

Aunt Stacey really likes The Phantom of the Opera has 'Its a Small World' stuck in his head.

Book 65 - Boo! by Robert Munsch

Boo is about a little kid who wants to paint his face instead of wearing a mask for Halloween like every other year.  His paint is so scary that the people fall over adnhe takes the candy - all of it!!  I like when he scares the teenager and I like the illustrations and I like Robert Munsch.

Book 64 - Wiggly Tooth by Catherine Lukas

This book is about a girl with a wiggly tooth and she wiggles and wiggles until it falls out. I have not lost any teeth yet, but I like this story.

Book 63 - Hooper Humperdink, Not Him! by Dr. Seuss

I like this book now but I didn't used to like it. It is about someone having a party but they were not going to invite Hooper Humperdink. My mom used to tease me when I was little and change the name to Kael Kennedy instead of Hooper Humperdink. I like it now because I can read it and change the name to Hooper Humperdink.

Book 62 - The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss

This book was kind of easy to read and a little bit fun. It says not to use your teeth to chew off bottle caps or to untie knots. Most of all it says never to bite your dentist. Bite someone else instead.

Book 61 - Great Day for Up! Dr. Seuss

I did not like this story it was boring to read. It kept repeating the word up. The little boy wanted everybody up in the world, except for him. He wanted to sleep in for fun.

Book 60 - In a People House by Theo LeSieg

I like this story but I don't really like the pictures. It is about a mouse taking a bird into a people house and showing the bird what it is like inside. Things like dishes, trash, string, scissors, fork knife and spoons.

Book 59 - Santa Mouse by Michael Brown

Gold star because it is awesome!! This is Stacey's favourite book. This is a really old book. Stacey Brown reads me this book every Christmas Eve. It was her favorite since she was little, a hundred years ago!  Every year I leave cheese for Santa Mouse.

Book 58 - Little Critter's Spooky Halloween Party, by Mercer Mayer

A little too easy to read. The guy invites a whole whack of creepy monsters that are actually just his friends to his party. Then they take turns telling scary stories then they hear a screaming from the closet and the door starts creaking open and there is a ghost but it is actually just his little sister.

Book 57 - Spooky Night: The Nose Knows, by Tish Rabe

This is one of my favorite books. What I like is that there is a bat with a magnet in his nose and you have to use him to find things in the book. When you are done you have to put the bat back in his cage.
